Director
David’s tax career started in 1991 working for the Inland Revenue. When Self-Assessment was introduced in 1997, he moved to working for accountancy practices including local and regional independent firms and until 2007 with a leading national top ten company before he started his own practice in 2008, trading as Derbyshire Tax Services. He has advised on a wide range of issues from helping small owner-managed businesses through to high net-worth entrepreneurs.
David is registered with the Association of Taxation Technicians as a Practising Member http://www.att.org.uk/
Thomas Curtis ACCA MAAT
Director
Tom qualified as a Chartered Certified Accountant in 2022 after previously achieving the Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) qualification in 2017. He is responsible for the preparation of accounts, VAT Returns and Tax Returns and advising clients on all related matters.
Tom is a lifelong Derby County supporter.
Andy Hagues ATT
Tax Partner
Andy joined HMRC in 1988 and worked there for almost 10 years. Since leaving in 1998, Andy has worked for various practices across the East Midlands, both local and national. Andy has a wide knowledge of tax, from Capital Gains Tax when selling properties to advising non-residents of their UK tax liabilities. Andy is a member of the Association of Tax Technicians and qualified in 2000.
David Coleman FMAAT
Senior Accountant
David is a Fellow Member of the Association of Accounting Technicians and ran his own Accountancy Practice from 2001 through to selling it in 2019. He is responsible for the preparation and review of accounts, VAT Returns and Tax Returns, tax advice/planning and mentoring junior staff members. Outside of work he enjoys watching most sports particularly football, cricket and horse racing, playing golf and going for walks with his daughter’s French Bulldog, Mabel.
Nathan Handley AAT
Accounts Senior
Nathan assists with the preparation of Accounts, VAT Returns and Tax Returns, as well as helping to run payroll services for clients. He attained his AAT qualification in 2025. Outside of work he enjoys spending time in the gym and watching football.
Ruth Johnstone AAT
Accounts Senior
Before joining Derbyshire Tax Services Ltd, Ruth worked at a financial services company for 10 years where she started as an apprentice and ended up managing the accounting department, whilst undertaking practice experience at another local accountancy firm.
She attained her AAT qualification in 2018 and is currently part qualified ACCA with 2 exams left to take. She’s a big F1 fan and loves spending time with her family and walking with her dog.
Jamie Walker
